Kolkata: Legendary Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee, also known as Soumitra Chattopadhyay, passed away on Sunday at 85. He had been battling Coronavirus disease since the month of October. ALSO READ | Veteran Bengali Actor Soumitra Chatterjee Passes Away At 85


The Dadasaheb Phalke awardee was admitted to the hospital on October 6 and remained in medical care for more than 40 days.

Starting his journey with internationally acclaimed filmmaker Satyajit Ray, he went on to act in several of his films which include Apur Sansar, Devi, Teen Kanya, Charulatha, Aranyer Din Ratri besides the Feluda films Sonar Kella and Joi Baba Felunath.

Soumitra Chatterjee was last shooting for a documentary film 'Abhijan' helmed by Bengali actor Parambrata Chattopadhyay (also known as Parambrata Chatterjee) and attended the filming on October 1, after which he tested positive for Covid-19.
