New Delhi: As compared to his previous film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Kartik Aaryan's latest film is underwhelming at the box office. The actor's newest film, ‘Shehzada’, had a below-average opening weekend at the box office. On its first weekend in theatres, ‘Shehzada’ grossed Rs 19.90 crores, as reported by Box Office Worldwide.
On February 17, Shehzada made her big screen debut to much excitement. The movie, however, failed to excite its target audience and was met with a lukewarm response.
On its first day of release, Shehzada made Rs 7 crore at the box office. On Sunday, February 19, however, the film's take was up somewhat over the previous day. The movie earned more than Rs 7.30 crore nett in India.
The theatrical run of ‘Shehzada’ is contingent on its performance on Monday, February 20. Every significant decline in the film's box office takes away momentum, making it more difficult to regain control.
Meanwhile, ‘Pathaan’, starring Shah Rukh Khan, has been in theatres for 26 days, and it still remains the audience favourite. After its fourth Sunday, the Siddharth Anand-directed film has earned a staggering and record-breaking Rs 515.70 crore at the box office.
Meanwhile, Shehzada's OTT rights were reportedly purchased by Netflix for a hefty Rs 40 crore. The film's international distribution rights have also been sold for Rs 5 crore.
Directed by Rohit Dhawan, 'Shehzada' is the remake of Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde starrer Telugu film 'Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo' which was released in 2020 and became a huge hit.
In the days leading up to the movie's release, the actor, who is also a producer on it, did a lot of promotion. He toured the country with co-star Kriti Sanon, visiting campuses, shopping centres, and other promotional events to meet with fans. Along with Sachin Khedekar and Ronit Roy, Shehzada also stars Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Rajpal Yadav, and Ronit.
