Shahid Kapoor's on-screen portrayal of Tommy Singh in Udta Punjab has already been lauded by his fans as well as the audience alike. Ask Shahid about how he prepared for the role and the actor reveals that he had to stay high all the time before the shoot.




At the film's trailer launch the actor revealed how difficult it was for him to essay the role. Shahid who abstains from drinking and smoking has never done any kind of intoxicant in real life. The actor said that his character of a rockstar is heavily into drugs and to portray that he had to get as close to 'high' as possible.

Speaking on his acting prep, Shahid said, “In the absence of alcohol and any kind of substance, what helped me to get the kind of high I needed for my character was coffee. I would drink several cups of coffee before giving those shots.” The actor went on to say that he would have 8-9 cups of coffee to get that high before filming. Shahid has mentioned in the past that Tommy Singh is one of the scariest characters that he has ever played on screen.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the movie stars Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh in main leads. The film is based on the issue of drug abuse that  Punjab has been facing. ‘Udta Punjab’ will hit the theatres on June 17.
