New Delhi: Samantha Ruth Prabhu's upcoming Telugu film 'Shaakuntalam' has been one of the most anticipated films of the year especially after the success of her previous action film 'Yashoda'. Earlier, the makers had announced the release date to be February 17 but now the film has been postponed to a couple of months. On Friday, the official announcement about the release date stated that 'Shaakuntalam' will now release on April 14, 2023.

Although no specific reason was shared for the delay, a new poster with a release date was shared. Samantha plays the central character Shakuntala, daughter of Menaka and Viswamithra in 'Shaakuntalam'. The film has been produced and directed by Gunasekhar and will also be released in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.

After 'The Family Man' and Samantha's performance in the show, Samantha has become a pan-India star with a massive fan following. 'Shaakultalam' also marks Samantha's first collaboration with Gunasekhar.

When 'Shaakuntalam' was announced in 2020, Samantha had shared that it was her dream project and dream role.

However, given the recent state of things on a personal front, Samantha broke down at the trailer launch of 'Shaakuntalam’ where she said that her love for cinema hasn't changed despite her life's struggles.

“No matter how many struggles I face in life, one thing won’t change. That’s how much I love cinema and cinema loves me back. I strongly believe that this love will grow manifold with Shaakuntalam,” she had said.

Meanwhile, Samantha’s last release ‘Yashoda’ grossed Rs. 40 crores at the box office. She played the role of a surrogate mother who would stop at nothing to protect her child. Recently, Samantha also joined the Indian adaptation of 'Citadel' which is being helmed by Raj & DK who also worked with Samantha in 'The Family Man: Season 2'.
