New Delhi: As Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Vicky Kaushal stars in the film ‘Sam Bahadur’. The film takes place during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, in which Sam Manekshaw commanded as the Indian Army commander. Opening to a respectable Rs 6.25 crore rupees in net sales, Vicky Kaushal's film had a fantastic start to its theatrical run. The film's solid opening weekend set the stage for a successful run for the Meghna Gulzar directorial.
The sacnilk reports that on the third day after its debut, Sam Bahadur's Hindi version had an overall occupancy rate of around 56.33 per cent. After a solid opening day of Rs 6.26 crore, the film continued to do well throughout the weekend. On Saturday, it saw a 44% increase, making Rs 9 crore. Total domestic earnings for the film amount to Rs 25.55 crore as of now.
At the theatres, ‘Sam Bahadur’ is competing with ‘Animal’, starring Ranbir Kapoor. Sam Bahadur is running well at the box office despite the tough competition with the latter.
Vicky Kaushal recently shared a photo with former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who lauded ‘Sam Bahadur’. "My childhood hero saw my Film today! #IAmOk !!! Thank you @sachintendulkar Sir for your kind words… I’ll cherish them for a lifetime, he captioned the photo.
ABPLive review of the movie reads: "'Sam Bahadur' is an engaging watch about a man who deserved such a homage. The film is a mature take on how the biographical war drama genre on patriotism can be done right. Watch it for the performance of Vicky Kaushal and for Meghna Gulzar who has set the bar high for other filmmakers attempting the genre or this subject."
