New Delhi: The Prashanth Neel-directed film ‘Salaar’, starring Prabhas is scheduled to premiere on December 22. Nevertheless, the producers have reportedly cancelled the screening in two southern multiplexes. Reportedly, the producers of 'Salaar' have chosen not to distribute their film to PVR-Inox and Miraj cinemas in certain areas.
On Wednesday, the producers of ‘Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire’ announced that their film would not be shown in southern cinemas like PVR INOX and Miraj Cinemas. This decision was made due to the fact that these multiplex chains are showing more preference for Shah Rukh Khan's ‘Dunki’ than Prabhas starrer.
According to the booking records, 'Dunki' has been given all of PVRInox's single-screen properties in North India. Because of this, the producers have chosen not to screen the film even in the South.
The banner was promised "equal showcasing" for both ‘Salaar’ and ‘Dunki’ by PVR INOX and Miraj Cinemas, according to a representative for Hombale Films.
A representative for the production house said in a statement, "Because of unfair showcasing to 'Salaar', we will not be releasing in PVR INOX, MIRAJ in southern states. We have been discussing it with them for the last two days. They have opened all shows/screens for 'Dunki' alone which was against what they had agreed. They had agreed that they would give equal showcasing when discussed but now they are not doing so."
Additionally, on X, the hashtag #BoycottPVRInox began to trend.
"Clashes have happened in the past too and it's the right of every exhibitor to decide on his showcasing," one exhibitor told Bollywood Hungama.
Miraj Cinemas has chosen not to comment at this time.
Two upcoming big-ticket films, Dunki (starring Shah Rukh Khan) and Salaar (starring Prabhas), are set to premiere in theatres on December 21 and 22, respectively.
