New Delhi: Actor Saif Ali Khan, who is receiving positive response for his performance in Ajay Devgn's 'Tanhaji: The Unsung Wariiro', is being massively criticised for his comment on Indian history. "I don't think this is history," Saif said, talking about his latest release, adding: "I don't think there was a concept of India till the British gave it one." Saif's comment came in  recent interview when he was asked to comment on the political subtext of the film.

"For some reason I didn't take a stand. Maybe next time I would. I was very excited to play the role because it's a delicious role. But when people say this is history, I don't think this is history. I am quite aware of what the history was. I don't think there was a concept of India till perhaps the British gave it one. I don't think there is really any constructive point in arguing about loudly, provided you yourself know why you're doing it," Saif said.

After Saif's comment on 'concept of India' went viral, BJP MLA Ram Kadam has slammed the Bollywood star. Kadam has said that Saif Ali Khan isn't aware about India's ancient history properly.

"Saif Ali Khan is a good actor, but I think he has studied history only from the point when the Britishers came to India. If he would have studied ancient history he would have known that India's tradition is 1000 years old," Kadam told ANI.

Further alleging that Saif Ali Khan is heaping praises for the Britishers, the BJP leader said, "If he would have studied our Vedas and Puranas and all Yugas from Satya Yuga to Kalyuga, then he would have known that entire world heaped praises for India's culture."

"Instead Saif is heaping praises of Britishers and in indirect ways, he is degrading India. I request him to study history before debating on this topic," added Kadam.

On the career front, Saif Ali Khan will next be seen in 'Jawaani Jaaneman' co-starring Tabu & Alaya F. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, the film is slated to release on January 31.
