New Delhi: Director Karan Johar’s film 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani', starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, released in theatres on Friday (Jul 28). The film, that released a week after Hollywood films ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Barbie’, is expected to perform well at the box office.

According to industry tracker Sacniik, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is expected to make Rs 12 crore in India on its opening day. It reportedly registered a 12% occupancy in the Hindi market for morning shows.

The film had sold around 74000 tickets in advanced booking for its opening day across national chains including INOX, PVR Cinemas, and Cinepolis.

Theatre owners have high expectations from the films and are hopeful that the audience will throng the theatres for the movie just like they did for Christopher Nolan’s 'Oppenheimer' and Greta Gerwig’s 'Barbie.'

Before the film's release, Srinagar INOX Cinema theatre owner Vikas Dhar had told PTI that he is sure that the movie will do good in Kashmir. "We are looking forward to 'Rocky Aur Rani...' coming this week. Karan Johar has a huge fan following in Kashmir. I think that (film) should also do well. I feel the movie will be a longer-lasting film than 'Barbie' or 'Oppenheimer'," Dhar told PTI in an interview.

In the film, Ranveer plays Rocky, a fitness enthusiast who hails from a Punjabi family, while Alia's character Rani is a journalist from a Bengali household.

The film also features cinema veterans Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani review
The film has opened to largely positive reviews from critics. ABP Live’s review called the film a perfect ‘Bollywood masala family entertainer.’ The review read, 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani' ticks all the mainstream family entertainer films that offer a no-brainer story, is lavishly designed and decorated, songs to watch on a big screen, laughs to be shared with fellow movie-watchers, and A-listers with great chemistry. Karan Johar makes a film unabashedly unapologetic, and for that he gets full marks for keeping his signature alive.

There is ample song and dance and everything to get your paisa vasool in 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'. So make sure to watch the film in a theatre.”
