Singer-composer Wajid Khan of music director duo Sajid-Wajid, died in the wee hours of Monday, June 1 due to coronavirus. The 42-year-old singer was hospitalised recently at Surana Hospital, Chembur where his condition deteriorated, he had underlying kidney issues.


“He had multiple issues. He had a kidney issue and had a transplant a while ago. But recently he got to know about kidney infection… He was on the ventilator for the last four days, after his situation started getting worse. His kidney infection was the beginning and then he got critical,” Wajid's good friend and music composer Salim Merchant told ABP News.

Meanwhile, the death certificate released by BMC also mentioned that Wajid died of corona virus and kidney failure, reports Ravi Jain, ABp News correspondent.

And with this Wajid becomes the first celebrity in Bollywood who died of the deadly coronavirus. Earlier many celebrity including Kanika Kapoor, Karim Morani and daughters and recently Kiran Kumar were diagnosed positive with Covid 19.

Soon after the news of the composer’s demise broke, many from the film fraternity took to Twitter to pay tributes.

A few hours back, the late composer was laid to rest at the Versova Cemetery, reportedly next to Irfaan Khan's grave. Wajid's brother Sajid along with closed family members and few friends bid teary good bye at the funeral.
