Rani Mukerji and her family is probably facing the worst time of their life as the actress' father Ram Mukerji passed away this morning at 4 am at his residence.

Ram Mukherjee was an Indian film director, producer and screenwriter in Hindi and Bengali cinema, and was also one of the founders of Filmalaya Studios, Mumbai.

The veteran filmmaker is survived by his wife Krishna Mukerji, daughter Rani, son Raja and their respective families.

The late Ram Mukerji even launched his daughter Rani in a Bengali romantic comedy film titled Biyer Phool alongside Prosenjit Chatterjee in the year 1996. He also went on to produce her Bollywood debut film Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat in 1997.
