New Delhi: The 69th National Film Awards saw a handful of actors get recognition for their work. Allu Arjun earned the honour of being the first Telugu actor to win the National Film Award for Best Actor, but many fans were quick to highlight that Vicky Kaushal deserved it more for 'Sardar Udham'.

In the period drama penned by Ritesh Shah and Shoojit Sircar, Vicky Kaushal portrayed the title role of 'Sardar Udham Singh'. Banita Sandhu and Amol Parashar both featured in the movie. In 2021, the film had a direct Prime Video India premiere instead of a theatrical release.

A Reddit user wrote, “Lol....while I'd no hopes from National Awards, but this is a new low for it.”

Another user commented, “I honestly thought it would go to Vicky. He gave it his all, he become the character, molded himself to it. What one must do more to win a National Award? Allu Arun was good, but Vicky was far far better.”

“Nope. I've watched Jai Bhim. As much as Suriya was great in that role , Sardar Udham was a beast of another level. The range and versatility Vicky showed in that one role , is very hard to replicate. Irrfan Khan was supposed to do that role before his untimely demise. The comparisons would have been so hard to fight if Vicky hadn't actually done a great job,” another user noted.

Meanwhile, Allu Arjun made history by receiving the National Award for Best Actor for his role in the hit movie 'Pushpa: The Rise'. A video of Allu celebrating the achievement with team Pushpa surfaced online not long after he was named the Best Actor Award winner. In the video, an emotional Allu Arjun gave director Sukumar a heartfelt hug.

Sukumar directed 'Pushpa: The Rise', the first film in the franchise. The movie, which was released on December 17, 2021, starring Rashmika Mandanna and Allu Arjun.
