Mumbai: The Mumbai Police have registered a case against Bollywood Rajat Bedi under section 304A of the Indian Penal Code after he allegedly knocked down a man with his car. The person, who was injured and hospitalized following the accident, succumbed to his injuries, according to a report in ANI. Police officials are busy investigating the matter.
"The person who was injured and hospitalised after being hit by actor Rajat Bedi's car yesterday, succumbs to his injuries at the hospital. Police registers a case against the actor under IPC Sec 304A (causing death by negligence), further investigation underway," a tweet on ANI's Twitter handle read.
The officers had earlier registered a case against Bedi under 279, 338 of the IPC for allegedly hitting a person with his vehicle. The actor brought the injured to the hospital, where he confirmed that he hit the victim with his car, DN Nagar police told the news agency. The victim was admitted to Cooper hospital after he met with an accident near a temple in West Andheri.
"Rajat Bedi himself was driving the car and hit a man named Rajesh Dhoot when he was crossing the road last evening. Immediately, the actor got the victim admitted to the nearby Cooper Hospital in Mumbai," senior police officer Milind Kurde was quoted as saying by ANI.
He told the news agency that Bedi had left the hospital when the police reached there after receiving information about the accident. The police had called Bedi for investigation in the case.
Rajat Bedi is fondly known for playing the role of Raj Saxena in 'Koi Mil Gaya'. The film starred Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta in lead roles. Bedi has featured in several movies like 'Khamoshh', 'Partner' and 'Rakht'.
The actor made his Bollywood debut with Dimple Kapadia, Jackie Shroff and Tabu starrer '2001: Do Hazaar Ek'.
