One of the  much-awaited movie of this year 'Raazi' released worldwide this Friday, based on the real-life story of a Kashmiri spy who had put her life on stake to serve the nation during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971 stars Alia Bhatt in a lead role.The movie has a strong supporting star cast including Vicky Kaushal, Jaidip Ahlawat, Soni Razdan, Rajit Kapur and Shishir Sharma.


Set in the early 1970s just before the India-Pakistan war and inspired from real events, "Raazi" is the tale of a Kashmiri girl, Sehmat Khan (Alia Bhatt) whose life changes after she gets to know her dying father's last wish. As a dutiful daughter, she can do little but surrender to his passion and patriotism and follow the path he has so planned for her.

The movie is helmed by Meghna Gulzar, and is getting rave reviews from the critics, and in case you are wondering  whether to watch it or not, here we list five reasons which make the Alia Bhatt-Vicky Kaushal starrer a must watch this weekend:

1. Alia Bhatt: Time and again the young star has proved that she is the powerhouse of talent and with this movie Alia Bhatt proves that she was born to be an actor. Alia plays the role of a 20-year-old Sehmat, a Kashmiri girl studying in Delhi but on her father’s persuasion marries a Pakistani army officer to spy on the neighbouring county. The way Alia gets into the skin of her character Sehmat will give you goosebumps. She has trained herself in hand-to-hand combat, driving and has also learnt how the Morse code works.

2. Fresh pairing of Alia-Vicky: Alia as Indian spy Sehmat and Vicky Kausal as a Pakistani army man Iqbal look good together on screen. Their fresh pairing looks resplendent and will leave you excited for the film. And A-lister Alia's opposite a niche star Vicky makes the movie look real.

3. Meghna Gulzar: Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar's  last film Talvar based on a real-life double murder case was appreciated by the audience for its gritty and crisp narrative. And once again she has proved to be the master of a real-life story. The director proved her excellence in the forte of real-life based events with 'Raazi'. Gripping plot, excellent narration and well executed performances by the stellar star-cast says it all.

4. Real life story: Raazi movie is an adaptation of Harinder Sikka’s novel Calling Sehmat. The story of his novel is based on the real-life story of a Kashmiri girl(played by Alia Bhatt in the movie) whose discovery while being an undercover agent in Pakistan helped India to discover the plan of Pakistan of sinking INS Vikrant. The movie unravels the untold story which makes it a must watch!

5. Supporting Cast: No wonder Alia Bhatt's power-packed performance outshines everyone else. But it's the brilliant star-cast that makes the movie worth a watch. Among the supporting cast- Rajit Kapur as Sehmat's father Hidayat Khan, Shishir Sharma as Iqbal's father Brigadier Parvez Syed, Soni Razdaan as Sehmat's mother are all effective and effortless. Jaideep Ahlawat portrays Alia’s trainer and looks so real onscreen, the duo share an unsaid special bond.
