In a shocking and brutal incident of animal cruelty, a pregnant elephant died in Kerala's Palakkad district, standing in a river after eating a pineapple stuffed with crackers placed by some locals. While the death caused a huge outrage on social media with netizens calling for strict actions, a host of Bollywood celbs including Alia Bhatt, Anushka Sharma, Shraddha Kapoor, Randeep Hooda and many more have come forward demanding strict action against the culprits who fed a pregnant wild elephant a cracker laced pineapple that caused her death.

These celebs took to social media to share their anger and shock about the horrific act of cruelty against poor animal.

Demanding ‘harsher laws’, Anushka Sharma shared a screen-shot of the news clip and said, “This is why we need harsher LAWS against animal cruelty!!”

Randeep Hooda took to his Twitter handle to ask the Kerala CM to take appropriate action. “An act most #inhumane to will fully feed a pineapple full of fire crackers to friendly wild pregnant #Elephant is just unacceptable...strict action should be taken against the culprits sir,” he said.


Shocked by the reports, Shraddha Kapoor tweeted, “How?????? How can something like this happen??? Do people not have hearts??? My heart has shattered and broken... The perpetrators need to be punished in the STRICTEST way.”

The gruesome incident came to limelight when a forest officer in Malappuram district shared the details of the horrific incident on his Facebook page.

Forest official Mohan Krishnan, penned an emotional note narrating the events that lead to the death of the elephant. "When we saw her she was standing in the river, with her head dipped in the water. She had a sixth sense that she was going to die. She took the Jalasamadhi in the river in a standing position", he wrote.


According to reports, the wild elephant came out of the forest, and entered into a nearby village in search of food. As she walked on the streets, locals offered her the cracker-laden pineapple. The fruit exploded in the pregnant elephant's mouth and she met her tragic end.

The elephant was seen standing in the river with her mouth and trunk in the water, for some relief from the pain.Officials got to know about the elephant only on May 25, two days before she died on May 27.

The elephant was taken back inside the forest in a truck, where the forest officials cremated her.
