New Delhi: Actor Prakash Raj took to Twitter to criticise the "andh bhakts" who are "colour blind" after Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra took issue with the 'Pathaan' song 'Besharam Rang' because of the green and saffron costumes worn by actors Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.
The actor addressed the latest controversy and spoke out in favour of Deepika Padukone. Additionally, he reacted to protesters in Indore who burned Shah Rukh Khan effigies.
Prakash Raj on Thursday shared a news piece on Twitter and wrote,"#Besharam BIGOTS.. So it’s okay when Saffron clad men garland rapists..give hate speech, broker MLAs, a Saffron clad swamiji rapes Minors, But not a DRESS in a film ?? #justasking."
In the Madhya Pradesh city of Indore on Wednesday, activists from a group protested the upcoming Bollywood film 'Pathaan' and its song 'Besharam Rang'. According to PTI, the activists of “Veer Shivaji Group” gathered at a road intersection and set effigies of actors Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan on fire. They demanded to ban the film, set to hit the screens in January next year, alleging the Hindu community is feeling offended by the content of the 'Besharam Rang' song.
Earlier, Deepika's wardrobe in the song and the colour of her and Shah Rukh's attire were criticised by Madhya Pradesh's home minister, Narottam Mishra.
"The costumes in the song at first glance are objectionable. It is clearly visible that the song of the film Pathaan has been shot with a dirty mindset. I don't think this is right, and I will tell the director and makers of the film to fix it," the minister said while speaking to the media.
Shah Rukh Khan attended the 28th Kolkata International Film Festival on Thursday despite the protests against the song, and he also spoke there about the negativity on social media.
“Social media often driven by a certain narrowness of view that limits human nature to its baser self...I read somewhere-negativity increases social media consumption...Such pursuits enclose collective narrative making it divisive & destructive,” the actor said.
'Pathaan', directed by Siddharth Anand, is scheduled to premiere in theatres on January 25, 2023.
