The film review on ABP Live reads: "The period drama's defining feature, beyond the flawless storyline, is its smooth camera movements, which have been superbly done by cinematographer Ravi Varman. If a frame is paused, every single one feels to be an old painting with gorgeous tones. There isn't much need for dialogue because the visuals are so stunning that they effortlessly express what is going on. Meanwhile, the musical backing of scenes comes from AR Rahman's tracks and background score."

The movie tells the story of the early Chola dynasty and is a cinematic adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's novels from 1955. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi and Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Prabhu, R Sarathkumar, Parthiban, and Vikram Prabhu are just a few of the top stars from the Indian entertainment industry to appear in the two-part magnum opus.
