New Delhi: Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Panipat’, which released on December 6, has started on a positive note at the box office. The film, which is based on the third battle of Panipat, collected Rs 4.12 crore on its opening day. The war drama received mixed reviews from the critics and movie buffs. Although the numbers are low, the good word-of-mouth publicity is expected to help the film gain momentum.

Bollywood critic and Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the first day box office collection of ‘Panipat’ on Twitter.

“#Panipat records low numbers on Day 1... Reports [word of mouth] are positive and its biz, hopefully, should see a turnaround on Day 2 and 3... Fri ₹ 4.12 cr [2395 screens]. #India biz... Showcasing at multiplexes affected due to excessive run time [close to 3 hours],” Adarsh wrote on the micro-blogging site.


Arjun Kapoor essayed the role of Sadashiv Rao Bhau, the Commander-in-Chief of the Maratha Army, while Sanjay Dutt played the main antagonist Ahmad Shah Abdali. Kriti Sanon played the female lead Parvati Bai in 'Panipat'. The Ashutosh Gowariker directorial narrates the story of the battle which took place between the Maratha empire and Afghan Army led by Abdali.

The film also stars Padmini Kolhapure, Mohnish Bahl, Kunal Kapoor, and Zeenat Aman in pivotal roles.
