New Delhi: Akshay Kumar starrer 'OMG 2' continues to do well at the box office despite strong opposition from Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel starrer 'Gadar 2'. The film continues to see huge numbers on a non-holiday, on its first Monday. On Monday, the box office collection of 'OMG2' stood at Rs. 11.50 crores and the film crossed Rs. 50 crores mark within four days after release. As per analysis site Sacnilk, the collection of 'OMG 2' stands at Rs. 54. 61 crores. The film has become the second film after 'The Kerala Story' to have a better Monday than its opening Friday.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh also shared the film's status and wrote, "#OMG2 has a SUPER-SOLID Monday - the day that makes or breaks movies… Monday HIGHER than Friday, says it all… Fri 10.26 cr, Sat 15.30 cr, Sun 17.55 cr, Mon 12.06 cr. Total: ₹ 55.17 cr. #India biz. Sure, #OMG is a brand, but the love #OMG2 is getting is reflecting in its #BO numbers… This franchise has only enhanced its status in the eyes and hearts of moviegoers."
'OMG 2' opened at the box office with a Rs. 10.26 cr collection followed by Rs. 15.30 crores on Saturday and Rs. 17.55 crores on Sunday. Most of Akshay Kumar's film reviews are spread through word of mouth and thus the gradual increase in occupancy rate.
'OMG 2' comes a decade after the first sequel 2012 'OMG'. 'OMG' starred Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar in the lead.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the occasion of Independence Day 2023, Akshay Kumar regained his Indian citizenship. He had been holding Canadian citizenship before. This had always been an issue with his fans.
