New Delhi: The makers of 'Bholaa', which stars Ajay Devgn, announced on Friday that it made Rs 11.20 crore on its first day of domestic release. The Hindi-language action-thriller movie, which was also directed by Devgn and starred Tabu, opened to positive to mixed reviews on Thursday.
The film's producers stated in a press release that it made a net revenue of Rs. 11.20 crore in India.
“The film has garnered great word of mouth from critics and audiences alike. Despite having a holiday only in the northern region, the film has pulled in audiences to the theatres from all over India,” the statement read.
Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh also shared the box office numbers and wrote,“#Bholaa puts up a decent score on Day 1 [#RamNavmi]… Healthy footfalls during spot bookings - towards evening shows specifically - compensate for the low turnout in morning + noon shows… Thu ₹ 11.20 cr. #India biz.”
'Bholaa' is the Hindi remake of Tamil hit 'Kaithi', which was written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. A former prisoner (Karthi) decides to meet his daughter for the first time after being let out, but he gets caught up in a faceoff between the police and the drug lords.
Meanwhile, 'Dasara', starring Nani and Keerthy Suresh, has been doing well at the box office, earning Rs 17 crore net on its first day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. In the Hindi market, Dasara is competing against 'Bholaa'. This number represents the movie's collections in many languages, including Telugu and dubbed versions in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to Twitter and wrote, "#Dasara debuts at No.4 in USA Top 10 on Wednesday with $637,938 (sic)."
'Dasara' marked the debut of director Srikanth Odela. Nani, Keerthy Suresh, and Deekshith Shetty play the three main characters in the movie. The Telangana village of Veerapally serves as the backdrop for the revenge drama flick.
Produced by Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Cinemas, the film has music composed by Santhosh Narayanan, editing by Naveen Nooli and cinematography Sathyan Sooryan.
