New Delhi: The first teaser of the long-awaited film 'Maidaan', starring Ajay Devgn, has been dropped. Coach Syed Abdul Rahim, who is credited with creating modern Indian football, is portrayed by the actor in the film. The action-drama 'Bholaa', which stars Ajay in the lead role, was released on Thursday, the same day the film helmed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma released its first trailer.
The teaser, which is one minute and 30 seconds long, follows a fight against the odds while following a historic sports drama track. The 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland, are shown in the teaser's opening monochrome sequences, which tell the tale of India's best-ever football performance.
Coach Syed Abdul Rahim, played by Ajay, is then introduced to us. There is a lengthy training montage, some spectacular goals, a glimpse of the team's rivals, and then some emotional pep talks.

The movie is based on the true story of Syed Abdul Rahim, a famous football coach from Hyderabad who led the Indian team through some of its most glorious times.
Speaking of his film, Ajay told Variety,“Maidaan’ is my personal favorite. I rarely say this, its one of the best films I’ve done. It has shaped up very well. Every department of the film, the storytelling, the direction, the performances, everything looks outstanding.”
“It’s a sports coach, but sports is the backdrop. Basically, it’s a very human story of a man and his struggle and his dreams and his family. So that’s lovely,” he added.
Besides Ajay Devgn, the film also stars Priyamani, Gajraj Rao, and Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh. Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Arunava Joy Sengupta and Akash Chawla, the film's screenplay and dialogues have been written by Saiwyn Quadras and Ritesh Shah. The film is all set to release worldwide in theatres on June 23.
