Mumbai: Veteran lyricist Anwar Sagar, who wrote the lyrics of Akshay Kumar’s popular song ‘Waada Raha Sanam’, passed away on Wednesday (June 3). He was 60. ‘Waada Raha Sanam’, which was picturised on Akshay Kumar and Ayesha Jhulka in ‘Khiladi’, proved to be huge hit among the fans.
Sagar left for his heavenly abode after suffering a heart attack.
Anwar Sagar’s son Sultan Sagar, while talking to ABP News, said, “After he became ill in the morning, I took him to several hospitals including Criti Care, Sujoy and Modern. However, he couldn’t be admitted to any of the hospitals as there were no available rooms for him. I took my father to Kokilaben hospital, where his heart stopped beating and he suffered a heart attack. Although, the doctors tried to save him but they were unsuccessful. He took his last breathe around 12pm.”
Anwar was facing health issues since the past few days. His family doctor had prescribed him some medicines, telling him that he had normal cough and cold. Sagar’s condition deteriorated on Wednesday and hence he was rushed to the hospital. His son said that he had no ailments.
Anwar Sagar penned the songs for films like 'Yaraana', 'Sapne Saajan Ke', 'Main Khiladi Tu Anari' and 'Vijaypath', to name a few. He collaborated with music directors like Nadeem-Shravan, Jatin-Lalit and Anu Malik in the 90s.
The official Twitter handle of Indian Performing Right Society offered condolences after Anwar Sagar’s demise. "Veteran lyricist and IPRS member Anwar Sagar has passed away. Known for writing songs like Waada Raha Sanam, he also penned lyrics for iconic movies like Vijaypath and Yaraana. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in this difficult time. May his soul #RIP," the handle posted a tweet.
Bollywood has lost has many stalwarts in the past few months. Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan left for their heavenly abode in April 2020. Veteran lyricist Yogesh Gaur and actors Mohit Baghel, Sachin Kumar and Sai Gundewar passed away last month.
Talented music composer Wajid Khan died on June 1 in Mumbai. The ‘Dabangg’ music director, who had underlying kidney issues, took his last breathe at Surana Sethia hospital.
