Kangana Ranaut Urges Fans To Watch ‘Thalaivi’ In Single Screens If Multiplex Chains Don’t Screen It

Kangana Ranaut requested the owners of multiplex chains to allow the screening of her highly anticipated film 'Thalaivii'.

Mumbai: Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Thalaivii’ has been making waves ever since the makers unveiled the trailer of the film on the ‘Queen’ star’s birthday. At a time when several filmmakers have skipped the theatrical route for their projects, the makers of ‘Thalaivii’ have decided to release their film in the theatres. The AL Vijay directorial is the third major movie to arrive in the cinema halls after several state government lifted restrictions, which were imposed to curb COVID-19.

Ahead of the release of ‘Thalaivii’, Kangana urged the multiplex chains to screen her much-awaited flick. She shared a video on Instagram, tagging the official handles of PVR Cinema and INOX Movies.

"The theatrical business has suffered a massive blow during the COVID19-crisis. At the same time, OTT platforms have managed to prosper. Thalaivii has been made on a budget of Rs 90 crore, the biggest for a female-centric film. The producers have taken a decisive decision to release the film in theatres. They rejected huge offers from streaming platforms. However, we didn’t know that the theatres won’t support us,” Kangana said.

The ‘Panga’ star said that multiplex chains are not releasing ‘Thalaivii’ in theatres despite the four-week period between the theatrical and digital release. “The multiplex chain owners should avoid gangism and groupism and instead take steps to encourage the audience to come to the theatres,” she added.

Ranaut also urged her fans to watch her film in single screens when it releases. "Please watch the film on single screens or on streaming platforms if the multiplexes don't screen it," she said.

Yesterday, the 'Manikarnika' star shared a series of posts on her Instagram story, expressing her displeasure over the reports which suggested that national multiplex chains have decided to not screen her film.

"In these times we must support each other and not bully or arm twist; it's our fundamental right to recover the cost of our film which we did, we may have two weeks window for Hindi version but for South we have four weeks window yet multiplexes ganging up on us and stopping our release there as well," she wrote. 

‘Thalaivii’ will hit the silver screens on September 10, 2021. The film, which is based on the life of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, will release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
