Actress Madhuri Dixit Nene says it was tough and emotional for her to play a role which was to be originally essayed by Sridevi in "Kalank". Madhuri plays Bahaar Begum in Karan Johar's multi-starrer production "Kalank". After Sridevi's demise last year, the role was offered to Madhuri.

At the film's teaser launch here on Tuesday, Madhuri was asked about how she felt on the sets of "Kalank" knowing that the character was supposed to be played by Sridevi.

Question: "aapke mann mei kya chal raha tha jab aapko approach kiya gaya tha is role ke liye? Kya extra pressure tha ki Sridevi ka role aapko karne ke liye diya gaya hai?"

Madhuri: "Ek to bohot dukhad baat huyi thi tabhi hi.. aur jabi i was approached to do this role, ek heavy heart tha tabhi.. dil mei bohot saari bhawnaayein theen kyonki ek bohot hi achhi artist achhi insaan theen wo.. aur unke sath aisa hua! Lekin.. to step into the role.. jab aap ek as an actress baat karte hain toh ek alag baat hai kyonki jab role milta hai toh aap usey apne hisaab se karte hain lekin ofcourse unki yaad hamein hamesha aati thi set pe kyonki wo karne waali theen isko. Lekin phir jab aap shuru karte hain kaam toh uske beyond dekhna padta hai aapko aur apna role achhi tarah se nibhaana padta hai to wahi kiya lekin ofcourse you know we will all miss her terribly!"

(Firstly, her demise was sad news for us and when I was approached for the role, it was not easy for me. I have immense respect for her. She was a good artiste and a good human being too. To step into the role, when you look into it as an actress, it's a different scenario as you add your own inputs to the character, but we used to remember her on sets as she was a part of the film. Once you start work, you have to look beyond that and play your character to the best of your abilities. I did that, but missed her too.)

Madhuri also shared her experience of reuniting with Sanjay Dutt on-screen after 20 whole years. There was a lot of speculations on the two working together again since they were rumored to be dating two decades ago. Both Sanjay and Madhuri spoke about their reunion on 'Kalank' sets during the teaser[Watch here!] launch event.
