New Delhi: Talented singer Jubin Nautiyal, who has crooned hits like ‘Humnava Mere’, 'Humma Humma' (Ok Jaanu),  'Kuch To Bata (Bajrangi Bhaijaan) and 'Socha Hai' (Baadshaho), is back with another song and this time it’s a classic folk number. The ‘Phir Mulakat’ singer is ready to take his fans on a musical journey with the folk song titled ‘Ta Chuma’. Jubin has collaborated with Tulsi Kumar for the song which has been recreated with a unique genre called electronic Sufi.

The ‘Akh Lad Jaave’ singer in an exclusive chat with ABP News talked about ‘Ta Chuma’, his experience working with Tulsi Kumar, upcoming projects and a lot more.

Excerpts from the interview.

Tell us something about your song ‘Ta Chuma’?

Ta Chuma is a Garhwali folk song that has been originally written and composed by Narendra Singh Negi. It is a cult classic song in the mountains. I belong to Uttarakhand and this song has been part of my life for a very long time and I wanted to share this song with everybody. That’s how I came with the whole idea of re-creating the song.

What is the meaning of 'Ta Chuma'?

Ta Chuma is like a celebratory thing in garhwali language similar to hip hip hurray or balle balle. It is a term used to depict happiness.

Is it true you suggested Tulsi's name for the female vocals? How was your experience working with her?

Tulsi has sung several Bollywood songs which are brilliant and have topped the charts. Whenever I have heard Tulsi Kumar’s work, I have felt an authentic touch of folk in her voice. She has a very distinctive tone to her voice, which I really admire.

When it comes to 'Ta Chuma', I had many other options in my head but I could hear Tulsi’s voice right from the beginning. The song is all about the duet and some nok-jhok. Tusli Kumar is the best choice for the song. It’s a brave step for an artist to sing for a folk song. She loved the song and we ended up doing it.

Do you believe this is actually  the first step towards popularizing folk songs?

Folk music was all where it all began. I wanted to go deeper into the roots and introduce the present generation to these folk songs. I am a firm believer that folk music is where it all began. I believe folk is the root of music and somewhere we have lost touch with folk music and this is my attempt to revive folk music.

Any song which has actually inspired you or changed your life?

An artist gets his inspiration from different sources. If I talk about music, the golden era of Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and their journey in the industry have inspired me. They were the three strong pillars of music and their songs are a major inspiration for me.

Which female singer would you like to collaborate in the near future?

I have collaborated with almost all the female singers but there are some fresh voices that I have really liked. One of them is Lisa Mishra. She is a good artist and I would like to work with her.

Tell us about your upcoming projects?

Well, my upcoming projects are going to be in the independent space. I will explore genres which I have not sung before. I am very excited to break artistic barriers and make new music. You will hear my voice in several new Bollywood films.

You sang for the title track of 'Tu Suraj Main Sanjh Piyaji'. Any new TV shows in pipeline, where we can hear your voice?

I haven't collaborated for any original track for a TV show as of now after 'Tu Suraj'. I will announce whenever I do so.

Any message for your fans?

Thank you so much for loving my music. It’s because of my fans that ‘Humnava Mere’ is such a big success today. I will try to make the most honest music I can and I hope my fans continue to support me.

Here's a small glimpse of 'Ta Chuma'!

We wish Jubin all the luck for his new song and hope he continues to mesmerize the fans with his soothing voice.
