New Delhi: 'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai,' a courtroom drama starring Manoj Bajpayee, garnered rave reviews. The film, which is billed as inspired by true events and focuses on a self-styled godman accused of raping a teenager, has caused quite the buzz. However, Jodhpur-based advocate Poonam Chand Solanki, who has been credited to be the film's 'inspiration,' is reportedly upset about alleged claims that the story of the Apoorv Singh Karki-directed film is based on him.

Solanki was the lawyer who battled the Asaram Bapu rape case in 2013 and got the self-styled godman convicted.

In an interview with the news agency IANS, Solanki said,"I have taken the legal recourse in this matter. How can it be claimed that the movie is inspired by real-life events involving me when no NOC was collected from me, nor the script was approved by me? Those who signed an agreement with me sold the rights without informing me."

The attorney stated that he had filed a case in trial court and that notices had been served on the producers and others. Solanki also questioned the way the advocate was "portrayed" as a hero in the movie.

"I am not a hero, I simply discharged my duties as a lawyer. As the script was not shown to me, I don't know what fictional or non-fictional matters they had collected, or whether they could do it legally," Solanki told IANS.

Meanwhile, a legal notice has been sent to the film's producers by Asaram Bapu's charitable organisation, Sant Shri Asaramji Ashram Charitable organisation, saying that the movie is "highly objectionable and defamatory."

Manoj Bajpayee plays the lead role in Apoorv Singh Karki's hard-hitting courtroom drama 'Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai', a Zee Studios and Bhanushali Studios Limited production. The film released on Zee5 on May 23, 2023.
