New Delhi: Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara starrer 'Jawan' released in theatres today. As the Atlee directorial continues to impress audiences, here is a short pointer wise dissection of the movie about what it gets right and not.

5 Good Things About Jawan

1. Music

Anirudh Ravichander really compliments the genre of the film. His background scores in action-thrillers are commendable. Likewise, for Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara starrer, the music composer's background score and music adds a touch of quirky and contemporary flavour to it.

2. Performance

Perfromances by all cast members in 'Jawan' are commendable. However, Shah Rukh Khan is a star performer, who shines in all glory in action, romance, dance and drama sequences.

3. Action

No one can ace swagger like Atlee in action. There are some greatest of all action sequences to watch out for in 'Jawan'.

4. Plot

Believe it or not, many action thriller don't really have a plot. Atleast, not the conventional Bollywood ones. However, Jawan is a fruitful marriage between a South film industry director and a Bollywood megastar and while one brings an organic, somewhat believable plot, the other brings all of star power.

5. Direction & Dialogue

Atlee's direction of such star power, grand sequences, a complex narrative is all commendable and a lesson for many Bollywood action directors.

One key strength of 'Jawan' is the quirky, contemporary dialogue which has a subtle tinge of hunour attached to it. It really is well-written for an action thriller.

5 Bad Things About Jawan

1. Length & Edit

'Jawan' is unbearably long in the second half. Despite twists and turns, the film only gets exhausting and a little less entertaining to keep up. A sharper edit would have really helped in that regard.

2. Songs

Despite a resonably good background songs, the songs of the film are over the top and forecful. Despite their unique element with a mix of instruments from North and South, they don't really vibe well with the tonality of the film.

3. Unreal landscape

'Jawan' despite having a believable arch of plot does not feel real on screen. It feels sanitized by all accounts.

4. Formula

Depsite being an all-out action thriller, 'Jawan' falls prey to the formula of becoming a politically correct film with a social message. And, that is a big problem.

Also, SRK has too much screen space and that is a formula problem that needs to be challenged.

5. Women Power

For all the claims of 6 women in the film and SRK, championing women empowerment, the silent hierarchy reinstatement and comments on the sly do not fade away.  For instance; when one expects Deepika Padukone to strike, SRK's dual role avatar to appear from a cloud of smoke or when you expect Nayanthara or Priyamani's character to take a stand, they do not.

So much for women power who still are shown to be emotional and sacrificing creatures of creation.
