Before the emergence of Lockdown set foot, Irrfan Khan’s ‘Angrezi Medium’ was the last movie which saw the theatrical release. The biopic of Gunjan Saxena, the first female aviator ranger to disembark in the raging battlefield of Kargil was slated to hit the screens on March 13, 2020. The makers postponed the release to avoid a clash with Irrfan Khan’s ‘Angrezi Medium’.

Karan Johar, the filmmaker has confirmed that the film will skip the theatrical release and will be released on OTT platform Netflix on Independence Day 2020 based on a report.

‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ is the true story of Flight Lt. Gunjan Saxena -- India’s first Air Force woman officer who went to war. The role of the Gunjan Saxena will be painted on-screen by Jahnvi Kapoor and the role of Jahnvi’s father will be illustrated by Pankaj Tripathi.

The reports said, "It’s as patriotic a story as it gets and everyone associated with the film feels that August 15 is the best date for the film release. The idea is to pay tribute to the Indian Air Force Pilot, Gunjan Saxena, the first female to go on combat. A theatrical trailer of the film is being prepared right now and will be unveiled within the next 10 days."

Going by the reports it is conjectured that the makers were planning to release the movie on Kargil Diwas, but the post-production work took longer than expected and now the world will see the trailer on July 26 2020.
