New Delhi: Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor has delivered some stellar performances throughout his career with ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Udta Punjab’ and others. But, the most notable amongst all his performances was the role he played in Vishal Bhardwaj’s movie ‘Haider’. Based on William Shakespeare’s tragedy ‘Hamlet’, ‘Haider’ shaped Shahid as an actor and he received high critical praises for his performance in the movie.
As ‘Haider’ completed seven years of its release on October 2, Shahid Kapoor penned down a note in which he said that he will be ‘indebted’ to the movie for helping him find himself as an actor.
The note read, “To be or not to be. An actor or a star. Looking outside or deep within. To find meaning or be meaningless. To dare or to submit. To hold on or to let go. The many questions an actor faces at a critical juncture in his journey of choosing who he decides to be. The possibilities are many. But there is only one right one. #haider you helped me find me. Ever indebted to you for that. HUM HAIN !!”
Other than Shahid Kapoor, the movie also featured Tabu in the lead role, playing the role of the protagonist’s mother. Irrfan Khan, Kay Kay Menon and Shraddha Kapoor were seen portraying supporting roles in the movie.
Helmed by Vishal Bhardwaj, ‘Haider’ became the first Indian film to win the People’s Choice Award at the Rome Film Festival. The film also won 5 National Awards for Best Music Direction, Best Male Playback Singer, Best Dialogue, Best Choreography and Best Costume Design. It was also screened at Busan International Film Festival.
An adaptation of ‘Hamlet’, ‘Haider’ is based on Basharat Peer’s memoir ‘Curfewed Night’.
Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor will be next seen featuring in a lead role in ‘Jersey’.
