Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gold’, which released on August 15, has set the box office on fire on its opening day. The Reema Kagti directorial, which released in over 2700 screens, has minted over Rs 20 crore to start on a thunderous note, despite competition from John Abraham’s ‘Satyameva Jayate’. Gold Day 1 box office collection stood at Rs 25.25 crore, making the film the biggest opener of Akshay Kumar’s career. Trade pundits were expecting the film to do quite well and the sports drama didn’t dissapoint them.

‘Gold’ revolves around Tapan Das (played by Khiladi Kumar) and his aspirations to win a gold medal for the country’s hockey team. Critics have lauded the film, calling it a perfect Independence Day release. Akshay has continued his good performance at the box office and proved why he is one of the most bankable actors in the industry. His last few releases, be it ‘PadMan’, or ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, have managed to do quite well at the box office.

Bollywood trade analyst and critic Taran Adarsh shared  Gold’s box office collection on Twitter. He wrote, ‘’ Gold has an EXTRAORDINARY Day 1... Takes a FAB START at plexes across major centres.’’


‘Gold’, which marked the Bollywood debut of popular TV actress Mouni Roy, has become the third biggest opener of the year after Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Sanju’ and Salman Khan’s ‘Race 3’.


‘Gold’, which released along with ‘Satyameva Jayate’, has done managed to surpass all the expectations, further cementing Akshay Kumar’s place. The film despite clashing with the John Abraham starrer has started on a flying note.

Satyameva Jayate, which also stars Manoj Bajpayee, collected Rs 20.52 crore on the first day, making it one of the biggest openers of 2018.

‘Gold’, which also stars Sunny Kaushal, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh and Vineet Kumar Singh, is expected to rake in big moolah and shatter several records at the box office.
