Popular south Indian actress Vijayalakshmi, who has won Filmfare Award for Best Actress in Kannada for her debut Kannada film Nagamandala attempted suicide on Sunday.


The actress posted a video about her attempt at suicide, she claimed that she was forced to take this drastic step after facing harassment from actor-turned-politician Seeman and his party, Naam Tamilar Katchi, followers. She reportedly, overdosed blood pressure pills and is currently under treatment at a Chennai hospital.

The actress known for films like Friends and Boss Engira Baskaran had recently made headlines for speaking against Seeman and the torture she was allegedly facing from the actor-turned-politician and his party.

In the video which was uploaded on Sunday evening, Vijayalakshmi said, “This is my last video and I have been in tremendous stress in the last four months because of Seeman and his partymen. I tried my level best to survive all these days because of my mother and sister, but I have been humiliated in the media by Harinadar recently.”

After Vijayalakshmi posted the video on Facebook, her sister Usha rushed to her residence and with the help of actor Gayathri Raghuram, they admitted Vijayalakshmi to a private hospital in Adyar. According to Gayathri, Vijayalakshmi’s condition is stable now.


According to The Indian Express, Vijayalakshmi’s sister Usha while speaking to the reporters on Sunday, said continuous harassment by Naam Tamilar Katchi leader Seeman and his partymen provoked her sister to take the extreme step.

Vijayalakshmi who is a popular face in Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam film industry had, in February, accused Seeman of cheating her after promising marriage.

Meanwhile, a complaint has been lodged on behalf of Vijayalakshmi against Seeman at the Adyar police station.
