New Delhi: A delegation from the film and entertainment fraternity met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday and asked for lower and uniform Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates for the industry. The delegation also called for development of Mumbai as the global entertainment capital through various initiatives and proactive approaches. The group comprised of producers and CEOs of companies in the industry.
Expressing their strong support towards Prime Minister Modi's vision for making India a five trillion dollar economy, the delegation gave an overview of the vast growth potential of the media and entertainment industry in India, and said that this sector is poised to contribute in a significant way towards this goal.
In his response, the Prime Minister said, "The Indian entertainment industry enjoys immense popularity across the world. It is one of the key elements of India's rising soft power status, globally."
He also assured that the Union Government is supportive of the media and entertainment industry, and would consider the suggestions positively.
Bollywood actors and directors including Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan, Rakesh Roshan, Karan Johar, Siddhartha Roy Kapur and Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman Prasoon Joshi, were present at the meeting. (ANI)
