New Delhi: The big-budget Hrithik Roshan film Fighter really took off on day two, after earning a respectable (though not spectacular) Rs 24 crore on the first day. Fighter's earnings on its second day of release, which coincided with Republic Day holiday, are expected to have increased by more than 70% due to positive talk surrounding the film's aerial action scenes. This brings the movie's domestic two-day total to Rs 61 crore. An estimated Rs 120 crore to Rs 150 crore is expected for the domestic opening weekend.
Fighter, directed by Siddharth Anand, is a patriotic action movie that chronicles the life of a few Air Force fighter pilots during a war. Alongside Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor, Akshay Oberoi and Karan Singh Grover have supporting parts. Sacnilk states that Fighter announced 41% and 42% occupancy rates for the 2D standard and 3D versions, respectively. The majority of viewers for both film versions attended evening shows. While Chennai claimed over 80% capacity, Mumbai and the Delhi NCR region reported occupancy of about 50%. Despite recent trends, Fighter is not being marketed as a pan-Indian movie.
The movie's first-day receipts did not quite reach the lofty standards that Hrithik has set for himself recently (his two previous films with Siddharth Anand had larger debuts); however, they did represent a return to form for the actor, whose last outing, Vikram Vedha, was perceived to have underperformed. On day three alone, Fighter will surpass the approximately Rs 80 crore that Vikram Vedha ended its domestic run with.
War, which grossed over Rs 470 crore globally after earning Rs 53 crore in 2019, continues to be Hrithik's highest-grossing film. Bang Bang made over Rs 350 crore worldwide after making its debut at Rs 27 crore. Anil Kapoor, Deepika, and Siddharth are all fresh off successful films. Anil was most recently seen in the contentious blockbuster Animal, while Siddharth and Deepika collaborated on the Shah Rukh Khan film Pathaan.
