New Delhi: 2023 has been a lucky year for Shah Rukh Khan with his two films ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’ collecting more than 1000 crore each at the worldwide box office. Expectations were high with his third release of the year ‘Dunki’ but the film failed to create magic at the box office on its opening day. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, the Rajkumar Hirani directorial has collected Rs 30 crore nett at the domestic box office.
With Rs 30 Cr opening at the domestic box office, Dunki is the seventh-biggest opener of this year after Jawan, Animal, Pathaan, Tiger 3, Gadar 2 and Adipurush. Jawan had collected Rs 75 crore on its first day and Adipurush had raked in Rs 36 crore on day one.
According to Sacnilk, Dunki had an overall occupancy of 29.94%. The NCR region had approximately 31% occupancy, and Mumbai had 29.75% occupancy.
From Friday, Dunki will face tough competition with Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran's Salaar. The Prashanth Neel's directorial is expected to open with Rs 60 crore collection at the domestic box office.
Before the release of both films, the makers of 'Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire' had said that they won't screen their film in PVR INOX and Miraj Cinemas theatres in the south because the multiplex chains were favouring Dunki over the Prabhas-starrer.
While the reviews of Salaar are not out yet, Dunki opened to mixed reviews from critics and audiences both. ABP Live's review of the film read, "'Dunki' will take you on an emotional journey, even if it doesn't seem like a masterpiece is on its way. While it is undoubtedly not as spectacular as his past movies, the social drama is nevertheless delivered in an upright tone. Vicky Kaushal makes an outstanding appearance, and you do get back the charming Shah Rukh Khan. Finally, unlike the romanticized depictions of violence in movies, 'Dunki' is a family-friendly film that makes you feel good when you walk out of the theater."
