New Delhi: 'Drishyam 2', starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu, is continuing its box office reign after surpassing the Rs 200 crore milestone on Sunday. Due to favorable reviews from critics and viewers, the popularity of the movie has been growing at an astonishing rate. The criminal drama is now inching closer to overtaking 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in terms of total earnings.

'Drishyam 2' is now in second place after Gangubai Kathiawadi in terms of highest-grossing Hindi movies of the year, but it is expected to overtake it on Monday. During its whole run, the biopic starring Alia Bhatt brought in Rs 211 crore at the box office. At the moment, 'Drishyam 2' is just about to reach that milestone.

'Drishyam 2' made a gross of Rs 170 crore in the domestic market and Rs 33 crore abroad in its first 10 days, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, giving it a worldwide gross of Rs 203 crore.

Given its weekend box office performance, the movie is already among the top 5 highest-grossing Bollywood movies of the year. In spite of the fact that Bhediya, a recent release, had positive reviews and did well on word-of-mouth alone, the Ajay Devgn-starring film has faired better overall.

The combined weekend box office for the movies was just announced on Twitter by trade expert Taran Adarsh. "BOXOFFICE BACK WITH BANG… Weekend #BO is smiling once again… Look at the *combined* WEEKEND biz of #Drishyam2 [₹ 39.24 cr] and #Bhediya [₹ 28.55 cr]: A WHOPPING ₹ 67.79 cr… Non-holiday period… #Avatar and #Cirkus will further boost biz… Plus, there’s #Pathaan in Jan 2023," the tweet read.

'Drishyam 2' is the sequel to the 2015 smash hit 'Drishyam', starring Ajay and Tabu, and also a remake of Mohanlal's 2021 Malayalam movie of the same name. The film released in theatres on November 18, 2022.
