New Delhi: Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma and Indian Cricket team captain Virat Kohli pledged their support to the PM Cares Fund and Chief Minister's Relief Fund (Maharashtra) to help combat the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic. The power couple took to social media to make the announcement and said that they hoped their contribution would help ease the pain of the people.

“Virat and I are pledging our support towards PM-CARES Fund & the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (Maharashtra). Our hearts are breaking looking at the suffering of so many & we hope our contribution, in some way, helps easing the pain of our fellow citizens #IndiaFightsCorona,” Anushka Sharma wrote on Twitter.

Although, Anushka and Virat didn’t reveal the amount they donated to the relief fund; an industry source exclusively told ABP News that the couple has contributed Rs 3 crore to fight against COVID-19.

“Virushka, as fondly called by fans, have together donated Rs 3 crore to PM CARES Fund and Chief Minister’s relief fund (Maharashtra),” the industry source said.

PM Narendra Modi announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown last week to contain the spread of Coronavirus. Virat and Anushka urged their fans to follow social distancing through their video messages. They even made a fervent appeal to the citizens to stay at home and take the lockdown seriously.

Several Bollywood, Tollywood and TV celebrities have also contributed their bit to the government’s relief funds. Akshay Kumar, Kartik Aaryan and Varun Dhawan have come forward to support PM Modi in the tough times.
