Deepika's first look from 'Chhapaak' features her as an acid attack survivor. Deepika took to social media and posted her first look and also revealed her character's name (Malti) and film's release date. She wrote, "A character that will stay with me forever...#Malti... Shoot begins today!#Chhapaak... Releasing-10th January, 2020. @meghnagulzar @foxstarhindi  @vikrantmassey87"

Take a look at her post below:

For the uninitiated, Laxmi was 15 when the attack occurred, which was at a New Delhi bus stop in 2005. Her attacker, a 32-year old man, was an acquaintance of her family. Later, she took up the job of helping acid attack survivors and promoted campaigns to stop such attacks. Agarwal is a well-known advocate of stricter punishments in acid attack cases.

Through Laxmi’s story, the film makes an attempt to understand the on-ground consequences of surviving an acid attack in India.

While the film showcases her journey in the time after her attack spanning 10 years, a significant part of the story is the game-changing PIL in the Supreme Court which inspired the amendment on acid laws in 2013.

Coming back to 'Chhapaak', the film will hit the theatres on 10th January, 2020.
