The trailer of Udta Punjab has already created buzz among the fans because its bold theme of substance consumption. Moreover, Alia Bhatt, Shahid Kapoor's care free avatar along with usage of cuss words in the movie has put the Censor Board in a fix. While there is a section of the board which feels that the film can be cleared with some cuts, there is another section which feels that a higher number of cuts are required.

As per the reports on SpotboyE, ''there was a team of 4 members and the Regional Officer (RO) who saw the film were unanimous in their thought that the film can be granted only an A certificate, they differed on the number of cuts that they wanted to implement.''

A source says, "Three members felt that fewer cuts would be fine, but one of them put his foot down to say that he wanted a far higher number of cuts. All efforts made by the RO to ensure that the four end up on the same page proved futile." Last heard, CBFC Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani has planned to send the film to the Revising Committee (RC). Adds the source, "The Chairman reserves the right to forward it to the RC if there is a difference of opinion which cannot be resolved."

The source added that the RC will be headed by either Nandini Sardesai or the Chairman himself.
