Mumbai: Bollywood financier and builder Yusuf Lakdawala, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a land grabbing case, passed away on Thursday (September 9). He was lodged at Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail. JJ Hospital's doctors confirmed that he was brought dead to the hospital, according to a report in ANI.
The police officials have registered an accidental death report (ADR) after Yusuf’s demise. The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained, the report added.

“Builder & film financier Yusuf Lakdawala, who was lodged in Arthur Road Jail after being arrested by ED in land grabbing case, dies. His body has been brought to JJ Hospital. An ADR (Accidental Death Report) has been registered. Cause of the death is yet to be ascertained,” the tweet on the official Twitter handle of ANI read.
The Enforcement Directorate had questioned the former film producer in connection with a land grabbing case in Khandala in May 2021. He recorded his statement with the ED officials at the agency office. The case pertains to forgery and attempt to grab property.
The said land, which is estimated to be worth Rs 50 crore, belongs to erstwhile Hyderabad's Nawab Himayat Nawaz Jung Bahadur.
According to a report in IANS, Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing arrested Lakdawala in April 2019 from Ahmedabad airport. He was reportedly trying to flee to the UK. The yesteryear film financer was accused of forging signature to grab the property.
During the investigation, it was found that Lakdwala had forged the documents of the land to show that his father purchased it in 1949.
