New Delhi: The dramatic portrayal by Bobby Deol as the antagonist in 'Animal', directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, has garnered a lot of attention and marked Deol's triumphant return to the movie screen. There has been both acclaim and criticism for the film, with many expressing their disapproval at its depiction of violence against women. Bobby Deol recently addressed the controversy in an interview, defending his character's need for a marital rape scene in ‘Animal’.

In ‘Animal’, Bobby Deol portrayed Abrar, who, shortly after his marriage to his third wife, imposes himself on her. People on social media have been critical of the scene. Bobby said why exposing Abrar's character was so important when asked about the marital rape incident.

In an interview with The Quint, the actor said, "I’m not trying to promote anything. Yes, it was required. How do you showcase a character in such a short span, show what this man is capable of, what kind of person he is? All these scenes were required.”

He went on to say that movies reflect society rather than promote certain ideals. He said, "We are influenced by what is happening in society as filmmakers. What is written, as a story, is an influence of what is happening in society. It exists in our society. We are not promoting it. We are actors, portraying characters, entertaining people. And if that was the case, this film wouldn’t be a big hit.”

The film 'Animal' has Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, with Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Triptii Dimri in significant supporting roles.
