New Delhi: Irrfan Khan starrer ‘Angrezi Medium’, which hit the silver screens on March 13, has started on a positive note despite closure of cinema halls in Delhi, Kerala and Jammu & Kashmir due to Coronavirus outbreak.  The comedy drama, which is the second installment of ‘Hindi Medium’, received mixed reviews from the critics and fans. ‘Angrezi Medium’ minted Rs 4.03 crore on its opening day at the box office.


Bollywood critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the first day box office collection of ‘Angrezi Medium’ on Twitter. He mentioned that the film couldn’t perform as per expectations owing to the Coronavirus.

He tweeted, “#AngreziMedium Fri ₹ 4.03 cr. #India biz. Note: Biz has been severely affected due to closure of cinema halls in several states. #CoronaVirus #COVID19.”



The official Twitter handle of Maddock Films posted a tweet and thanked the audience for their love.



'Angrezi Medium', which has been directed by Homi Adajania, revolves around a father-daughter relationship, played out by Irrfan Khan and Radhika Madan respectively. The film also features Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepak Dobriyal, Dimple Kapadia and Ranvir Shorey in pivotal roles.

The makers will re-release the film in Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir and Kerala, regions where cinema halls will remain shut till March 31 due to the Coronavirus scare.

The Maharashtra government has also ordered closure of malls, cinema halls in five cities including Mumbai until March 31. Both Mumbai and Delhi are considered key territories as they contribute a major chunk to any film's business. 'Angrezi Medium' is likely to face a big drop in its earning on the second day at the box office.
