Mumbai: Alia Bhatt, who will be seen playing the titular role in 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', has announced the release date of the much-awaited film. The biographical drama has been making waves ever since the makers unveiled the film's teaser in February. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who has delivered hits like ‘Padmaavat’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, has worked with Alia for the first time in ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’.
‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ Release Date
Bhatt took to social media to reveal the release date of her highly-anticipated flick. The movie will hit the silver screens on January 6, 2022. Yes, you read that right!
The ‘Gully Boy’ actress shared the film’s poster along with the caption, “Bringing to you a part of my heart & soul, #GangubaiKathiawadi releasing in cinemas near you on 6th January, 2022.” Her sister Shaheen Bhatt dropped a heart emoji on the post.
Ajay Devgn To Make Special Appearance In ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’
Although the makers have kept the details of Ajay’s character under wraps, gossip mills suggest that he is playing Karim Lala in the film. The ''Bhuj: The Pride Of India' actor also shared a post on social media to announce the release date of 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'.
"She rose to power amidst the flames of hardships. The wait is about to get over, watch #GangubaiKathiawadi in cinemas near you on 6th January 2022," Devgn wrote on Instagram.
'Gangubai Kathiwadi' is loosely based on S. Hussain Zaidi's 'Mafia Queens Of Mumbai'. The film will also be dubbed in Telugu. It will mark the Bollywood debut of 'Khatron Ke Khiladi 8' winner Shantanu Maheshwari, who is a prominent TV star.
Several Big Films To Release Next Year
Bollywood filmmakers have announced the release dates of their movies after the Maharashtra government confirmed that the cinema halls will reopen in the state from October 22, 2021. Many big-budget movies like 'Laal Singh Chaddha', 'Shamshera', 'Prithviraj', 'Radhe Shyam', 'KGF Chapter 2' will arrive in the cinema halls in 2022.
Trade pundits are hoping that the upcoming films will revive the theatrical business, who has been affected due to the COVID-19 crisis.
