New Delhi: Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ was expected to set the box office on fire during Eid 2020. However, the much-awaited film couldn’t hit the silver screens on its scheduled release date as the cinema halls are shut due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Gossip mills have been buzzing with the rumours for quite some now that the film will skip the theatrical release and premiere directly on an OTT platform.

It was said that makers of ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ are in talks with Disney+Hotstar to procure the release rights. A report in an entertainment portal has confirmed that the comedy drama will release directly on the OTT platform after the post production work is completed.

The makers are waiting for the lockdown to get over so that they can complete the remaining post production work. Therefore, they haven’ decided the release date.

The digital rights of ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ have been reportedly sold at a whopping price of Rs 125 crore. Yes, you read that right.

"It's true that the film will now be premiering on Hot Star. Although there was a bit of disagreement initially, everyone is on the same page now. The movie will indeed be releasing online. The team needs a month to prepare the project. A bit of post production work remains and they are waiting for the lockdown to get over. The producers have taken a joint decision on calling the most minimum number of people to get their film ready. So the film won't hit the OTT platforms at least till a month after the lockdown is lifted. So the release date isn't decided yet," a trade source told Pinkvilla.

The makers of the film have bagged them a lucrative deal as the digital rights have been sold for a staggering price. The report further said that since ‘Laxmmi Bomb’ is releasing directly on the OTT platform, the makers have received a huge price.

"Usually digital rights of a big film get sold at record prices of Rs 60-70 crore max. But since this film won't have a theatrical release and will be straightaway sold to digital, they have fetched a huge price. Laxmmi Bomb has been sold for a staggering Rs 125 crore. But while the number is huge considering digital rates, what one must not forget is that it had the potential of earning over 200 crore at the box office, despite a clash with Salman Khan's Radhe. So the total revenue that the team will make out of it, is much less," the source further said.

‘Laxmmi Bomb’ is the remake of the Tamil hit ‘Muni 2: Kanchana’. The first look of Akshay from the film created a lot of buzz on social media.

Films like 'Gulabo Sitabo', 'Shakuntala Devi' will premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video. Several other movies are expected to follow the suit.
