New Delhi: The makers of Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer 'Adipurush' launched the trailer of the film on Tuesday. At the trailer launch, Kriti Sanon said that her co-star Prabhas is just like Lord Rama - a “simple” man who speaks straight “from the heart.”

The trailer was launched amid much fan-fare with the audience chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and carrying saffron flags. Prabhas along with the crew also chanted 'Jai Shri Ram' and 'Jai Siya Ram' and said he felt grateful to portray such an iconic character.

"I should thank Om for giving me this opportunity. We have made this film with a lot of love and respect. Hope you all like it," he said at the event.

To which Kriti said, “He’s as simple as Prabhu Ram I’d say. He’s so simple, so from the heart.”

Kriti also said that sharing the trailer with the audiences globally is an "emotional" moment for her.

"I have goosebumps right now. 'Adipurush' is more than a film to all of us. I'm grateful for the experiences we have had during the making of this movie. There are very few actors who have had the opportunity to play a character like this. So I feel very blessed. I had respect and admiration for this character but it all got amplified as I shot for this movie. I could understand this character in detail. For me, Janaki represented the combination of a pure, kind soul with a strong mind. I've given my 200 per cent. They were gods, we are mere humans. So, if there's any kind of shortcoming, please forgive me," the actor said.

The film features Prabhas as Lord Ram, Kriti Sanon as goddess Sita, Sunny Singh as Lakshman and Saif Ali Khan as Raavan.

'Adipurush' had courted controversy in October 2022 after the first teaser of the movie was heavily criticised on social media for the quality of visual effects as well as its depiction of Hindu deities.

It was also slammed for the apparent Islamisation of Lankesh, played by Saif, as the demon king was seen sporting a beard and buzz cut. The row prompted the makers to push the movie's release date from January to June 2023.

The 3.19-minute trailer mostly focuses on Ram's journey from Raghav to Adipurush as he braces for a war with demon king Lankesh. The trailer reflects the work done in the visuals and is far better than the teaser. It opens with a narration from Hanuman, who takes us through the story we have all grown up listening to and watching. The trailer shows very little of Saif Ali Khan as Ravan.

Before its theatrical debut on June 16, the movie will have its world premiere on June 13 at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
