New Delhi: Madhavan starrer ‘Alaipayuthey’, which released on April 14, 2000, has completed 20 years of release on Tuesday. The film co-starring Shalini explored the tensions of married life between two young people, who decided to get married without the consent of their parents. The Mani Ratnam directorial, which received good reviews, is considered as a cult classic in the Tamil film industry. The romantic drama was later remade in Hindi as ‘Saathiya’ in 2002.

Madhavan, who made his silver screen debut with ‘Alaipayuthey’, took to social media to share a heartfelt post as the film turned 20. The ‘3 Idiots’ actor also thanked the fans for ‘keeping the memories alive’.

“20 yers that flew by since the release of my debut film. #20yearsofalaipayuthey. Thank you all for keeping me and the memories alive,” Madhavan tweeted while sharing a collage photo of the scenes from ‘Alaipayuthey’.


The cinematographer of ‘Alaipayuthey’, P. C. Sreeram, also went down the memory lane and shared,"#alaipayuthey April 14  Two decades of Alaipayuthey, Fresh in the minds of viewers all arounf the world ."


Fans also reminisced the golden memories of the critically acclaimed film. One user tweeted, "It's been 2 decades since this film released still haunts me by its mesmerizing LOVE track! ‘Alaipayuthey’ did a good job at the box office and the film received praises for its realistic portrayal of married life. The movie’s music was composed by A.R. Rahman and it managed to strike a chord with the audience.
