New Delhi: Ever since its release ‘Kantara’ has been ruling the heart of audiences and subsequently over the box office. The film’s Hindi version has collected Rs 15 crore so far. It is to be noted that the film had no promotion pre-release, the film is doing wonders at the box office solely because of word of mouth.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to update about the box office numbers of the much-acclaimed film. He wrote, “#Kantara *#Hindi version* did not enjoy the perks of a solo release... Also, it arrived with as-good-as-nil promotions... Yet, the superb word of mouth has converted into ticket sales and energetic footfalls... Its stamina on weekdays is an eye-opener... Data in next tweet...”
In the next tweet, he gave the box office numbers. His tweet read, “#Kantara *#Hindi version* packs a healthy number... Starting with ₹ 1.27 cr [Day 1], *Week 1* closed at ₹ 15 cr, a rare feat in today's times... Fri 1.27 cr, Sat 2.75 cr, Sun 3.50 cr, Mon 1.75 cr, Tue 1.88 cr, Wed 1.95 cr, Thu 1.90 cr. Total: ₹ 15 cr. #India biz. Nett BOC.”
The film which opened with Rs 1.27 crore net on the very first day in the Hindi market, collected Rs 1.90 Crore on Thursday bringing the total to Rs 5 crore.
Apart from this, 'Kantara' also made its position at No. 1 in the list of India’s Current Top 250 Films which was released by IMDb recently.
After winning accolades from celebrities like Dhanush, Anil Kumble, Prabhas, Prashanth Neel, Anushka Shetty, and Shilpa Shetty, Kangana Ranaut has also expressed her love for the film.
Taking to her Instagram story she wrote, "I feel #Kantara should be India's entry to Oscar next year, I know year is yet to end and there may be better films coming, but more than Oscar India needs the right representation globally... this land of mysteries and Mystics one can't understand one can only embrace it .... India is like a miracle... if you try and make sense of it you will only get frustrated but if you surrender to the miracle you can also be one .... Kantara is an experiential reality which world must experience .. @rishabshetty77."
Set in the fictional village of Dakshina Kannada, Kantara is a visual grandeur that brings alive the traditional culture of Kambala and Bhoota Kola art form to the fore. The soul of the story is on human and nature conflict which is deeply rooted in the coastal culture and folklore of Karnataka. The movie will be released on 800-plus screens across India.
It tells the story of a local demigod (Bhoota) who trades forest land to the tribe's people with a king in exchange for happiness.
Directed and led by Rishab Shetty, the movie also stars Sapthami Gowda in the lead. It also stars Kishore and Achyuth Kumar in pivotal roles.
