New Delhi: Bollywood director Kabir Khan and Mini Mathur have been married for more than 25 years now. When asked whether he and Mini's different religious backgrounds had been an issue while trying to get married, he confirmed that they had not. The couple has been sharing a happy interfaith marriage.
Kabir Khan, in an interview with Humans of Bombay, discussed his marriage to Mini Mathur, including whether or not their religious differences were an issue. According to Kabir, Mini anticipated some pushback from her relatives when he and she first started talking about getting married. Kabir said, “Mini comes from a very traditional Mathur family. Religion was never really an issue and initially, Mini thought that there will be an issue in trying to convince her extended family but it’s just so beautiful how they all accepted me.”
He said that despite all their disagreements and problems, religion has never come up. “We had a wedding, did rituals from both sides, more for the families than for us. I am actually an atheist, so I don’t really truly believe in God and religion so it was very easy for me to sort of accept all that. We’ve had many fights, we’ve had lots of issues, but religion has never been one,” he added.
Kabir also shared some details regarding parenting with his wife Mini. He said, “The way we have brought up our children, is also the way how I was brought up. We never really tried to push them into a direction. We let them celebrate and follow whatever they have a passion for. Because I think that’s the way you find your path.”
