New Delhi: As the Budget Session of the Parliament was adjourned sine die on Thursday amid ruckus by the Opposition over the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe on the Adani issue, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stepped up his attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre saying "something is fishy" as their demand remains unfulfilled yet.
"Something is fishy that is why the government is not agreeing to order a JPC probe into the Adani issue," Kharge said in a press conference.
Ruckus, sloganeering, and protests marked the first and the second leg of Parliament's Budget Session, as the Opposition parties stalled proceedings of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha demanding a JPC probe into the Adani matter.
"We are demanding JPC probe into the Adani issue, but why is the government afraid when it will have a majority in panel," Kharge said, adding "Modi government talks a lot about democracy but does not walk the talk."
The Congress president alleged that the ruling party demanding an apology from Rahul Gandhi over his speech in London was done by the government to "divert attention" on the Adani issue.
Cornering Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, Kharge said, "They didn’t do any other work other than putting a new engine in old trains and then flagging it off along with a long speech. For launching a train, what is the need of you (PM Modi), you have local MPs for it."
Earlier in the day, Opposition MPs took out ‘Tiranga March’ from Parliament to Vijay Chowk, on the last day of the Budget session of Parliament in Delhi. The last day of the second leg of the budget session witnessed massive chaos in Parliament on Thursday with both Houses being hit by continuous sloganeering by the Opposition demanding a JPC probe on the Adani issue.
