It's been close to three years since the legendary Captain America shield was handed down from Chris Evans' Steve Rogers to Anthony Mackie who plays Sam Wilson. Mackie undoubtedly had enormous shoes to fill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier presented him with the perfect chance to do so. Recently, Evans shared his thoughts on what he saw to be his replacement for the role of Captain America.

Even though Evans has left the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the time being but his legacy as Captain America will live on long beyond his exit from the series.

And now, more than three years after he last suited up as the Star-Spangled Man with a Plan, Evans has spoken for the first time about how it felt to see his friend, Mackie, step into his role.

During an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Evans expressed his opinion that Anthony Mackie is the only person who could adequately play the character. “No one better to do it. I mean, he honestly does it justice… I’m so proud of him. I can’t wait to see what they do in the future with it, but if there’s any tear shed, it’s just for the sweet memories I had,” Evans said.

The actor also said how thrilled he was to hear about the next adventures of the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor responded to a question on whether or not he "shed any tears" regarding his departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe by saying that he did cry up, but that it was only because he was recalling the "sweet memories" he had.

Evans' last appearance as Captain America was in the film Avengers: Endgame, which was released in 2019. In the meanwhile, Evans will next be heard voicing the role of Lightyear in the animated feature ‘Lightyear’.
