New Delhi: The 2024 International Emmy Awards will be hosted by Bollywood actor and comedian Vir Das, according to the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. On Monday, November 25, Das will become the first Indian to host the famous ceremony in New York City, which is a major milestone.
This is not Vir Das' first trip to the International Emmys. ‘Landing’, his 2023 Netflix comedy special, won in the Comedy category. ‘Vir Das: For India’, his 2021 film, was nominated for the same award. Reflecting on the honour, Vir Das expressed gratitude and wrote, “Thanks to your support, an Indian Emmy Host. I can’t wait to host the @iemmys this year! Crazy. Thank you for having me. Tremendously honoured and excited!”
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' President & CEO, Bruce L. Paisner, was overjoyed to announce that Vir Das will be returning to their stage and added, "We’re delighted to welcome back Vir Das to our stage and to add International Emmy® Host to his impressive list of talents. With his unique humor and perspective on the world, he now joins a distinguished group of Gala hosts over the years who fit in perfectly with our global audience."
Hrithik Roshan, Zoya Akhtar and Guneet Monga were among the many Bollywood stars who praised Vir Das's hosting announcement. Shefali Shah wrote, "That’s super cooooollllll. congrats."

Vir Das Career
Vir Das is well-known for his stand-up comedy, but he is also a successful actor and producer. In addition to his work in Judd Apatow's ‘The Bubble’, he has created and starred in programs such as ‘Hasmukh’ on Netflix and ‘Whisky Cavalier’ on ABC. To further demonstrate his versatility, he also fronts the comedy-rock band Alien Chutney.
Vir Das has lately achieved accolades for his portrayal of TV news anchor Satyajit Sen in ‘Call Me Bae’, starring Ananya Panday.
