Tom Cruise is heading back to the Cannes red carpet as ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’ gears up for its grand premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. The much-anticipated action spectacle will screen Out of Competition on May 14 at the iconic Grand Théâtre Lumière.

Cruise, who not only stars as superspy Ethan Hunt but also produces the film, will be joined at the festival by long-time collaborator and director Christopher McQuarrie, along with the ensemble cast. The duo, who’ve shaped the franchise’s modern legacy, are expected to bring the adrenaline-fueled energy of ‘Mission: Impossible’ to the Riviera.

This marks Cruise’s return to Cannes after a memorable appearance in 2022 with 'Top Gun: Maverick'. He also graced the festival back in 1992 for 'Far and Away', directed by Ron Howard.

‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' trailer

The eighth film in the blockbuster franchise promises to be a jaw-dropping conclusion to Ethan Hunt’s decades-long saga. The trailer was released recently blending death-defying action with callbacks to the character’s most iconic moments.

The trailer opens in true Mission: Impossible style — with Cruise hanging onto the side of a soaring aircraft — immediately plunging audiences into Hunt’s high-risk world. As cryptic voices challenge the myth of Ethan Hunt (“This can’t all be true”), a montage flashes through his perilous past: leaping from rooftops, surviving fireballs, and narrowly escaping countless life-or-death missions.

This time, the stakes are personal. With the world once again spiraling toward catastrophe, Hunt is being hunted himself — painted as a liability whose secrets threaten global security. The fate of everything he’s stood for — and everyone he’s sworn to protect — hangs in the balance.
